Freddie Rapp
Originally from Essex and currently based in Nottingham, Freddie Rapp is an emerging fashion photographer studying Fashion Photography at Nottingham Trent University. His work blends surrealism, experimental beauty and subcultural influence, creating visually striking imagery that sits between contemporary fashion editorial and art photography.
Freddie has developed a distinctive visual language centred around transformation, identity and self expression. Known for his bold use of colour, texture and distortion, his photography often takes familiar elements of fashion and beauty and pushes them into something more unexpected. Rather than approaching fashion photography solely as a way of documenting clothing, Freddie uses it as a space to construct characters, explore ideas and create entirely new visual worlds.
Beauty plays a particularly important role within his practice. Drawing inspiration from avant garde makeup, underground fashion and alternative youth culture, Freddie is fascinated by the ways in which hair, makeup, styling and the body can be used to transform how an individual is perceived. His imagery often challenges conventional ideas of beauty, combining highly polished creative direction with more unusual, raw or surreal elements.
There is also a strong sense of performance throughout Freddie’s work. His subjects frequently become characters within the worlds he creates, allowing him to explore the relationship between identity and image-making. Whether through exaggerated styling, experimental makeup, unusual poses or distortion, Freddie encourages the person in front of his camera to become part of the wider concept rather than simply being photographed within it.
His approach is highly collaborative. Freddie enjoys working alongside models, stylists, makeup artists and other creatives to develop an initial idea into a complete visual narrative. From the earliest stages of concept development through to the final image, he considers how each creative element can contribute to the overall atmosphere of a shoot. As a photographer with Noemi James Management, Freddie brings a more experimental perspective to the agency’s creative team. His understanding of conceptual fashion imagery allows him to work with models beyond traditional portfolio photography, encouraging talent to explore character, movement and expression in front of the camera. This provides models with the opportunity to demonstrate a different side of their ability while creating imagery that adds individuality and creative range to their portfolios.
Alongside his work with Noemi James, Freddie continues to develop his independent photographic practice through his studies at Nottingham Trent University. His university work allows him to continually experiment with new techniques, visual references and approaches to image-making, further developing a photographic identity that is becoming increasingly recognisable.
Freddie is particularly interested in the spaces where fashion, beauty, art and subculture overlap. His influences extend beyond traditional fashion imagery, drawing from alternative communities, performance, contemporary art and the constantly evolving visual language of youth culture. These references allow his work to feel current without relying solely on trends, instead building a creative world that feels distinctly his own.
